Summer Hair Products

Keeping your hair hydrated and protected is crucial to a healthy summertime hair care routine. Here are some summer hair products and tips for the hot days ahead.

Use a Leave-In Conditioner

Use a leave-in conditioner on wet hair before you plunge into the ocean or pool. Your hair will absorb less chlorine and salt when your hair is wet and loaded with a leave-in conditioner.

Afterwards, rinse the salt and chlorine out of your hair and add more leave-in conditioner. For extra protection from the sun, choose products with UV filters such as shea butter, sesame oil, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate (EHMC), methoxydibenz-oylmethane (BM-DBM) or Parsol SLX.

Switch to Lighter Styling Products

Lighter stylers like gels and jellies work beautifully to seal in moisture. They are also perfect to use over a leave-in conditioner. Because of the endless sunshine on your hair, you should also avoid hair dryers, flat irons, curling irons and other heat styling as much as possible.

Avoid Over Shampooing

Keep shampooing to a minimum since over cleansing can cause dry brittle hair. Use a cleansing conditioner instead during the summer to keep your hair moisturized and healthy.

Deep Condition

More exposure to the summer elements means your hair needs more deep conditioning. After spending time at the beach or the poolside, be sure to do a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week, or twice a week for those with drier curly hair. Don't forget to drink a lot of water as well. Keeping your hair and body hydrated is the key to healthy summer hair.
