I am a 3c/4a and I really like this product. I used a curl defining cream to define and add more moisture. It's a really good base and does a good job making my curls smooth

This is the second CJ product I have purchased and I love them both. My hair responds well to this product and I used as a leave in. I was able to detangle easy and it mxed well with my styler of choice. I really liked the results I got, the look and feel of my hair. I really will plan on repurchasing this product!!!!!!!!

It has great slip and really helps to detangle, but thats about it. I find the sweet vanilla scent too much: if I can smell it the next day-or 2 or 3-as well as anytime I use a spritz of water to reshape my 3a/b curls, then I don't like it. If I want sugary sweet vanilla perfume, I'll get some. With this I can't wear any perfume because this sticks with you. I used it without any gels at all, only as a leave in and I got beautiful curls. By the end of a rather humid day (52 Dew Pt) my hair had lots of little frizzy curls. I tried using a little to smooth our the frizz, but it didn't help. Maybe it works better on drier days, which we have a lot of here. I'm going to try it next under a gel and see if it will neutralize the sweet vanilla scent and give frizz control.

I have been wanting to try this product for a while now. The price is what led me astray! I have never spent $20 for a hair product! Ever! I always felt like people are dumb to spend that kind of money for just one hair product?! But I would say that I have a very curious mind.......so I said it does have very high reviews for 4b hair.....so I decided to order it. Surprisingly it does work really well. It has that slip that KCKT, has but it is far more moisturizing. The minute I put it on, it instantly allows for easy detangling. Anyone that has 4b hair, knows how fustrating it is when your coily hair entangles with other strands, sometimes causing knots. This products helps and I can tell it will last a long time because like other reviewers have mentioned----you don't need alot to do the trick. 4 stars because of the price!

It's just a good, moisturizing leave-in, with good ingredients, and consistent results. I keep a 2-oz bottle in my purse to snag frizz from humidity attacks or smooth and seal if I want to take my hair down unexpectedly, and I keep the big bottle in my shower and apply just after I turn off the water. The results are smooth, soft, and shiny--but I do need a little bit of a "boost" product over top if I want optimal curl formation. Not sure if I'll rebuy, or experiment to find similar results at a more palatable price point. Worth mentioning, however this sits with you, that the cotton candy smell is . . . noticeable. Not to my taste at all, but others have complimented the smell, so it's really just a heads up for those of you with similar fragrance feelings!

This would have been a 5 star rating if it wasn't for the glycerin! I love the way this product works as a leave-in. It instantly softens the hair and it provides lots of slip to add in detangling. I tried it as a moisturizer and I didn't enjoy it as much. Maybe because I used too much product, it left my hair crunchy. As for the glycerin, because the glycerin content is so high in this product, it will dry your hair out in low dew points. You can't use this product all year round :(. Now I have to find a non-glycerin leave in that provides the same slip or softness.

I absolutely LOVE this product! My 2b/2c hair is thin and dry and this product definitely gives it strength and shine. I use it as a leave-in conditioner underneath the coffee coco light cream and I have great results, my hair has never been healthier before and gets a lot of compliment. As mentions in other reviews, even if it is a bit on the pricier side, it goes a long way. My hair gets pretty much to my shoulder, I have had this bottle since last May and I'm not done yet! Will definitely buy it again! Plus I really love the smell.

I have to say that I really like this product so far. I have been using it for almost a week now and it is very very moisturizing. I've been using it with KCCC. I will not give it 5 stars because It would have to be super amazing and not much works for me after a long period of time. I would recommend this product.

This is a lovely leave-in conditioner. It definitely lives up to its rating and description. The smell is mild candy-like or a baked good, sweet. The ingredients are good, too. My oh my, CJ products are expensive, but I can deal with that as long as their quality and performance stays super-high, Happy Hair!
P.S. I use lots of different leave-in conditioners, I switch leave-ins every time I wash because they reduce tangling and perform optimally that way for me. I rotate this CJ smoothing lotion religiously with Paul Mitchell the conditioner (available on ground), and KCKT.

This has officially been added to my HG list. I am mad I didn't use CJ products before now. I have really soft curls and they tend to get thirsty and dry. I use this after I apply the CJ Argan & Oil Conditioner and its a match made in heaven. My hair is moisturized, my curls are elongated and silky with no frizz. This also plays well with other products and I top it off with Darcy's Botanicals Cocoa Bean Smoothing Cream and I have no residue, flaking or stickiness. I am able to have frizz free curls for 3-5 days & I use it to also refresh my hair. The smell to me is fine. It's not very strong. I have a sensitive sniffer and have been known to not even consider a product due to the smell. I just wish this came in a bigger size!!

While this was easy to distribute and it softened my hair, the frizzies still came back by evening. It wasn't too heavy nor too light, which I liked. I would have given this 3 curls if it weren't for the scent. It was unpleasant and so strong that even my boyfriend commented on how "weird" my hair smelled. I nearly got a migraine at the end of the day! ):

The first time I used this I used too much product and wasn't happy with the results. I personally use liquid leave-ins usually so it took me a few attempts but once you get the amount just right, it'll do wonders for your curls. A little goes a long way for my 2C waves!

I am a big propionate of leave-in conditioner! I was so excited to find this product in my quest to find the best products for my Type 2A hair. I have used other leave-in conditioners, but I would have to say this is one of my favorites. With every leave-in I asses several things: How it makes my hair feel, Is it heavy and Does it make my hair appear oily or stringy? Well I am happy to say that this is a light creamy product that left my hair feeling silky, hydrated and didn't weigh my hair down. Plus it smells amazing!

This product makes me giddy! I have type 3c/4a hair that is prone to frizz. I used CJ Smoothing Lotion before applying CJ Curls in a Bottle and finally got the smooth, frizz free curls I always wanted. I also added a little of the Oyin Shine and Define, but the Smoothing Lotion was definitely the miracle worker. It is worth every penny. Buy it now!

i just recieve this product,the first thing i like was that warm sugary vanilla smell.i couldnt stop smelling my fingers,it isnt too thick which i like .i put it on a section of i hair an i notice it as lots of slip and hair strands smoother.i cant wait to try it on my whole head

(4A/4B). I LIKE this conditioner! Very moisturizing, good slip, does not require alot. Have used with the coco creme & coco creme lite good results both times. I used it alone after shampooing sealed with oil still moisturizing no build up.

I have 4a texlaxed hair and the smoothing lotion is wonderful at moisturizing and smoothing my curls/coils. It's light and does not create buildup on my hair. I use it once a day and when needed twice a day. I wear a lot of braid outs and this works wonderfully to help define the wave and to keep my hair tamed. I love the Curl Junkie line as a whole and have purchased almost all of their "protein free" products, but the smoothing lotion is my go to leave-in and definitely #1 on my hg list.

My hair type is 3c/4a. I have tried several leave in conditioners that are here where I live so that I don't have to order. I always seem to come back to this leave in!! It is the best. It has great slip and does a good job in locking the moisture in. I would recommend this to anyone. I just wish it was available in stores.

Excellent slip and a great leave in. A little amount goes a long way. Applying to much in combination with other products will cause flaking.

I wanted to like this product so bad b/c it's by Curl Junkie. The smell was too strong for my liking and it dried out my type 4 hair. The next morning my hair felt like straw. It's also kind of thin in consistency. My guess is maybe this happened due to the product containing glycerin. Which now I know my hair doesn't like. If your hair is sensitive to glycerin, be careful when using this product as it may dry out your hair.

The 1st time I used it, I was NOT pleased because I expected more "slip". My hair is thick because I have a lot of strands of hair on my head, but the actual strands are not thick or thin and my hair is very dense and coily AND MOISTURE STARVED. I used it as a Leave In. I like strong smells, so I'm okay w/ the scent...I braided my hair, let it dry, then put it in a huge bun and it was still moist 2 days later...but I did reapply a tiny bit on day 2...I then added the Curl Junkie Rehab and all I can say is that it's clear that the two work together as a pair...I'm sticking to these two as my staples and the only thing I MIGHT add on "wash n' go n' comb my hair" days is a little KCCC (Kinky Curly Custard).

My hair isn't the "smoothing" type but for what is worth I really like the way this product conditions my hair. It's a lot more manageable, and not too heavy for my hair..it might be for some but it's perfect for me not greasy either . I love it.

This was excellent as a follow up to the Smoothing Conditioner and/or Curl Junkie Rehab Deep Treatment>>>I had great results using this prior to using a moisturizer and two strand twisting my hair. It was easy to use on my hair as my fingers glided through my hair for finger detangling. I dont' like that it has propylene glycol in it but its way near the end of the ingredient list. I do like that its glycerine free and protein free.
If I had to compare this to some other great conditioners then I would say that it is up there with the Oyin Handmade Hair Dew and my Qhemet Biologics Moringa Conditioning Ghee.

I have 3c-4a hair. This along with eco styler blue gave me the shiniest curls I have ever had! lack of shine has been an issue with me since I stopped using heat and let my curls come back. The smoothing lotion really gives me some shine and its a very natural shine at that! I love it ! It feels so smooth and silky going on and the smell is wonderful!

Love this as a leave-in. It smooths my hair and is very moisturizing. It definitely leaves my hair prepped and ready for the next step, such as a light gel. I like it on both wet and dry/damp hair. It also has a nice scent that isn't overpowering or too strong. I haven't had any problems with this when layered in any temps. Definite repurchase!

I wish I could get away with just this as a sole styler. It glides on and my hair feels great, but only half of my curls pop with this. If only it were a touch heavier. I use it under light gels for the best wash and gos.

LOVE this as a LI. I can't use alone, however, it pairs beautifully w/ KCCC!! The two together make beautiful music. I initially tried KCNT as a LI but sadly it didn't play nice with my hair (3b/3c fine). This smells wonderful and has a lot of slip and makes my hair so soft, shiny and bouncy with curls. I have 3c hair. I love Curl Junkie, but I wasnt impressed with this product......but then again my hair is not too fond of creams or lotions. I had alot of slip, smelled yummy, and a little went a good way. What I did not like was that it would get frothy if I applied too much to my wet or damp hair, and I used under Curl Queen and my hair looked dull with residue.It made a good rinse out conditioner though.

I like this product! I little does go a long way. I used it alone and with other products. For example, I'll use it alone for my ponytail (it gives light curl definition) and under KKCC for full curl definition. Makes my hair feel soft and managable. Not a staple product for me BUT a good product/ purchase nonetheless :)

Really nice basic! This leave-in moisturizes nicely, and isn't too light or too heavy. It doesn't do anything really special, but it does its job and it does it well. This is definitely something I want to keep around.

I have been looking for a staple leave-in conditioner that would leave my hair feeling soft, light, and smooth which is why this product will be my one and only leave-in product. My only issue is the price, but as long as I can fit this into my budget it will be a significant part of my hair regimen.

This stuff is absolutely amazing! It's the only leave-in in my opinion that can even compare to how moisturising KCKT is, and also has the same (if not more) slip! I have extremely thick hair, so whenever I apply a leave in I have to apply a LOT to cover all my hair. This spreads really nicely, so I've found my bottle has lasted a long time - a hell of a lot longer than KCKT. It can be used under my trusty KCCC without leaving any weird residue, and it smells lovely. BUY BUY BUY

I absolutely LOVE this product...it smells yummy and a little bit goes a long way. I use this as a leave-in on my 4b/c hair and it gives my hair really nice slip and its so easy to detangle my hair. This is definitely a keeper...I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is thinking about getting it!

This is a great versatile conditioner. Works great as a leave in...lots of moisture and slip. I like it even better as a rinse out. It is light but super moisturizing for my fine, 3a/b curls. I get great detangling, with frizz free curls and it doesn't weigh my hair down. Another great product from Curl Junkie. Love it!

The most moisture and slip a conditioner can offer. A little truly goes a long way so I do not mind the price. Great as a rinse out and detangler also. I love a versatile product. This product was just different from other conditioners. Curl junkie just has some good products period!

I finally got this product to try out as I have been at my wits end with Northwest frizzies! I have really fine hair with lots of curl. Day 1: 3 people today told me how beautiful my hair looked. I can't tell you how amazing that is after the frizzy freak outs i've been having. It feels REALLY SOFT, and not heavy. I still have good curl definition at 9:30pm. I used it when my hair was sopping wet, not even towel dried. 2 sizeable dollops, raking it into my hair with my head turned upside down, under the CJ Curls in a bottle, which i used on some twists. I still think i have some frizz, but SOOO much less. i think i'm a little oversensitive from the craziness of the last couple of months. We'll see how it holds up in the rainy weather.

This smoothing lotion works well on my hair. I use it as a leave-in and it detangles my hair very well, and leaves it extremely moisturized. I also love the scent of it- vanilla, and cotton candy. It's a light product, so there's no worries that it will be heavy on my hair, or leave a sticky coat.

I have short, 3b/c VERY fine and healthy hair. I love the daily cleansing cond. from this line but this didn't do it for me. Left my curls dull and weighed down. I am growing my hair out right now and will try again when it gets longer. Leave-ins are just too much for my hair it seems.

Such an AMAZING product! I have used it both as a leave in (underneath another styling product) and as a styling product and I LOVE it both ways! It makes my hair feel like silk. Also, it works wonderfully at defining and moisturizing my curls as well. And, it even helps with keeping my curls from frizzing up too.
It does have an artificial vanilla-cotton candy scent to it. But, it is not overpowering. And, it does not bother my allergies at all.
This is one product that every curly girl or guy should have!

I use this product in conjuction with Kinky-curly knot today and Jessicurl oil blend after my shower. It creates a lot of slip for my hair. It does what it needs to do, and helps with my frizz!
I never give products 5 curls, unless they are a miracle in a bottle.

This product may be a little on the expensive side but believeeee me, it's more than worth it. I got a free sample of this product and I absolutly love it for my 2A hair. Never before has my hair felt so soft or been so shiny. 110 percent happy with this product. Looking forward to buying the full size :)

I had been using Aveda Be Curly Curl Control and they discontinued it. As I bought up every left-over bottle I went in search for a replacement. Eight wasted attempts and then Smoothing Lotion. Ahhh; success!!
I mix this with some Tweek by Curly Hair Solutions, apply to dry hair, and my hair looks and feels great. Today is the fourth day after wash and style and it still looks pretty good.
I am glad they discontinued the Aveda product; this one is even better.

FANTASTIC! I've been looking for about 4 years for a product that would restore my hair back to normal and would enable me to have slip even when my hair is dry. All other products I've tried so far lost their slippery feel as my hair dried, so by the next wash my hair has a tangled mess and looked like it, too. With this, I can easily run my fingers through my hair each morning to untangle it without any breakage and without "frizz-ing" my hair!!!
I even tried it without any other styling products and still got frizz free, moisturized, shiny, slippery hair! AMAZING! Plus, a little goes a looong way! Def worth the money!
I've never been so happy with a product - they were all ok, and I could see the value added, but... not dramatic chances, like with Curl Assurance Smoothing Lotion.
Highly recommend trying it!

Very nice smoothing and detangling lotion or wet or dry hair. Leaves hair feeling very soft and moisturized. I prefer this lotion on fresh twistouts under Curls in a Bottle and to re-twist with but not so much for wash n go days. My hair swelled/poofed a bit too much as the day wore on after using this lotion under CIAB on wash n go days.

Love, love, love this product. It made my hair feel amazing and I swear it cut down on how long my hair takes to dry. I can only use this in spring/summer because of the glycerin but trust I will be using this up until the dew point drops.

Wow!! I love this product!! I like that you don't have to use a lot to put on your hair. This is very helpful for me because I have thick hair. I use mines as a leave in conditioner before I put my styling prodcuts on. I also like the smell of this product too!!

If I could give this product 10 stars, I would. It's worth every penny and a little goes a very long way. It literally melts in my hair and is the only leave-in/detangler/refresher that i will ever use from now on. If you try it, you're sure to love it. It's the best...no exaggerations...

I can’t say enough good about this product. I am a Hispanic girl who is a product junkie, always on the search for the best product for my 3C dry spiral and wavy hair. After using Elucence Moisture Balancing Conditioner (which is a fantastic find on this site), I used this leave-in. A little goes a long way you don’t need much. I have shoulder length hair and only needed a dime size amount for one section of my hair and then another dime sized amount of the other section. It smells great. I applied to my hair in scrunching motions, and used my blow dryer with diffuser to dry my hair about 70% and allowed the rest to air dry. When my hair dried it had shine and hold (not the crunchy kind of hold but the soft flowy hold!). I haven’t seen my curls look this good in ages. My hair smells great, my curls are moisturized and defined. I will be buying this again. Again keep in mind that a little goes a long way, so I expect the bottle to last a while. I now have my 2 hair staples (Elucence Moisture Balancing Conditioner to detangle and hydrate while I’m in the shower and now this great leave-in product.

I love this lotion!! It left my hair really soft although I don't have much (currently a TWA), but this was all I used after I washed my hair! The only reason I didn't give it 5 curlies because I want to see what it does when my hair gets longer, but I love it so far!!!

I've only used this product once and I am in L-O-V-E! Its moisturizing, gives great slip, and smells like heaven. I've been able to do twists that come out without any frizz and I don't have to use a ton of product. Even after a hot (80 degrees), windy day, my curls are still flawless. I'm even willing to budget the hefty price tag into my hair budget.

Absolutely amazing product. I LOVE this product. It has amazing slip and makes my hair feel like silk. And you don't need a lot, I use about a nickel size, sometimes a little more, and thats more than enough. Will definitely be repurchasing this.

I'm already a huge Curl Junkie fan, so I am always ready to try her new stuff. This leave-in is fantastic. Lots of slip and it smells good. I used it under a mousse and my curls stayed soft and well moisturized.

Another new CJ product I am in love with! Great scent, super slip, not too heavy, wonderfully moisturizing . Makes my curls shinning, soft and frizz free. Definitely a HG for me!

Love this so far....super moisturizing with great slip. I like the fragance too. I only had to use a little and it made my hair very soft . The bottle ought to last quite a while.

I really like this as a LI, it is VERY moisturizing and smooths my ends. Combined with the Curl Queen it is amazing! Giving it 4 stars though b/c I'm not sure how the glycerin will be in lower dews.
